HRH The Princess Royal launches CSCLeaders 2015

Addressing 100 senior city  leaders at Mansion House last week, HRH The Princess Royal, President of the HRH The Duke of Edinburgh Commonwealth Study Conferences, spoke about global challenges and the leadership skills crucial to solving them. The event took place to mark the 2015 launch of the largest annual Commonwealth-wide Leadership Programme, CSCLeaders. People were invited to learn more about CSCLeaders and how they can get involved. The event was hosted by Paul Manduca, Chairman, Prudential, CSCLeaders' Headline Sponsor, and CSCLeaders' Chair, Sir Eric Thomas, Vice Chancellor, University of Bristol.

Commenting on CSCLeaders and underlining her passion for leadership competency, HRH Princess Anne said: "My father launched the first Commonwealth Study Conference in 1956. Its renewal, as CSCLeaders, brings together talented individuals from diverse backgrounds to create a dynamic group of leaders. I have been impressed by the calibre of the participants who bring their own experience and knowledge, and have opened their minds to new ideas and challenges. What I have witnessed in previous years has been transformational as the individuals overcome assumptions and form into high performing focused teams, and this is what makes the Commonwealth Study Conferences so special."

In 2011, HRH The Duke of Edinburgh Commonwealth Study Conferences (UK Fund) went into partnership with Common Purpose, the international leadership development organisation, to develop CSCLeaders; a renewal of the groundbreaking Study Conferences for the Commonwealth of the 21st century. Each year, 100 exceptional senior leaders from government, businesses and NGOs across the 53 countries of the Commonwealth assemble for CSCLeaders. The programme, now entering its third year, will take place in 2015 in the major Commonwealth cities of London, Singapore, Ahmedabad and Nairobi, where participants will collaborate to tackle real-world challenges and build the global relationships needed by these leaders of tomorrow. Part One of the programme for CSCLeaders 2015 will officially begin in London in April when participants will tackle the Challenge: 'What makes a city smart?'

As a global business, Headline Sponsor Prudential recognises the need to invest in developing global talent to meet the challenges faced by leaders across the world. Prudential supports the CSCLeaders global programme to connect, challenge and inspire exceptional people from across the Commonwealth.

Closing the event, CSCLeaders Chair, Professor Sir Eric Thomas, Vice Chancellor, University of Bristol, shared his excitement for the programme: "As Chair ofCSCLeaders and an alumnus of the HRH The Duke of Edinburgh's Commonwealth Study Conferences, I know from my own experience how powerful and truly life-changing this programme is.CSCLeaders does not just expose participants to global challenges but pushes them to create innovative solutions and then, most crucially, keeps them actively connected through a vibrant alumni network."

There are a number of ways to support CSCLeaders, including:

  • Bursary Support:  We are delighted that Prudential is the CSCLeaders headline sponsor for the next three years. We are looking for other organisations to join them as bursary sponsors; this will ensure we can provide bursaries for 'Game Changers' in certain geographies or sectors across the Commonwealth
  • In-Kind Support:  In-kind support for CSCLeaders can take many forms such as speaking about or contributing research to this year's challenge or hosting a visit for a study tour
  • Participate / Nominate:  We are also looking for those interested in participating personally in CSCLeaders or nominating someone from their organisation or country
